ABOUT
Born in the East Village in 1967, LC is a life long native New Yorker who found her calling on the drums (actually, phone books) while living briefly in San Francisco in 1991, inspired by her encounters with Riot Grrls and west coast post-punks in the fertile SF music scene. After moving back to NYC in 1992, she and two other feisty self-taught girls formed feminist pop-punk band Growing Up Skipper, who quickly became much loved but released just one memorable single before disbanding.

Throughout the 90’s up until the present she has recorded and toured the US, Europe and Japan extensively with bands such as God Is My Co-Pilot, Truman’s Water, Laito Lychee, Cibo Matto, No Safety, Buffalo Daughter, Takako Minnekawa, Backworld, Dusty Trails, Mr. Dorgon, Golem, The Walking Hellos and others.

Ms. Cromwell received a commission from Roulette and the Jerome Foundation for her 1999 work “Burning”. Laura also founded and composed for Dim Sum Clip Job, a jump-cutting anything goes instrumental ensemble; and The Vivian Sisters, joining forces with multi-instrumentalist Jamie Saft to create some truly bizarre music. Both have CDS out on Avant.

Currently, Laura is at work writing music for a new ensemble called Queen Moonracer. The music is an attempt to bring together two sides of her musical life: the outré compositions and free improvisation she is so drawn to and her work in the pop arena.  It has afforded her the great pleasure of playing with some incredible musicians, including Okkyung Lee, Andrew D’Angelo, Rob Price, Jason Crigler, John Mettam, Rose Thomson and Karen Waltuch.
